Our Awesome Travel Book

I can't wait to work with Karen again! My partner and I were long-distance for nearly 3 years before moving across the country in late February - only to wind up in covid lockdown. I wanted to surprise him with a great book of memories from all the traveling we did over those years. If we couldn't travel this year, at least we could reminisce! 

I began toiling away with hundreds of photos and various apps. I lost the better part of my sanity in the process of trying to make a good book, only to figure out that I couldn't get it quite right and there were so many details I wasn't sure of. Being a perfectionist, I naturally threw everything away and started over. A couple times.

On my 5th(?) attempt, still frustrated, I realized there must be a better way: Enter Karen! I had thought about giving her one or more of the failed books and explaining in great detail what I wanted, what wasn't quite right, etc, etc. Instead, I decided that it's better to let the expert handle it - Karen, take the wheel :) I told her the ambition of the surprise, discussed the budget, and sent over a Dropbox link.

I am one of those people who loves to take photos and then never does anything with them.  My husband and I took two fabulous trips and needless to say, four years later, still no album or photo book.  It's the one issue that came between my husband and me-he would constantly hound me - "are you ever going to do anything with the pictures from Alaska? or Yellowstone?"  I truly wanted to do something with them, it was just too overwhelming for me.  I had thousands of pictures from each trip and it was too hard for me to decide which were worthy of putting in an album or book.

I have only positive things to say! The entire process was quick, easy and worth every penny, and Karen was extremely pleasant and fun to work with. 

I had hundreds of photos I would never have gotten around to sorting. I had wanted to make a book for a long time but as we all know, it’s a daunting endeavor to even attempt. 

The way Karen put my family photo book together was so thoughtful. We spoke in the beginning about the book’s intention and vibe etc, and she nailed it. She knew which photos were prominent and how to make the book flow nicely. A true pro. 

Karen was especially patient once the first draft of the book was put together - my changes, additions and revisions were handled seamlessly and quickly. She even zoomed with me to go over specific details including page and sizing options of the book.

Our Awesome Travel Book

I can't wait to work with Karen again! My partner and I were long-distance for nearly 3 years before moving across the country in late February - only to wind up in covid lockdown. I wanted to surprise him with a great book of memories from all the traveling we did over those years. If we couldn't travel this year, at least we could reminisce! 

I began toiling away with hundreds of photos and various apps. I lost the better part of my sanity in the process of trying to make a good book, only to figure out that I couldn't get it quite right and there were so many details I wasn't sure of. Being a perfectionist, I naturally threw everything away and started over. A couple times.

On my 5th(?) attempt, still frustrated, I realized there must be a better way: Enter Karen! I had thought about giving her one or more of the failed books and explaining in great detail what I wanted, what wasn't quite right, etc, etc. Instead, I decided that it's better to let the expert handle it - Karen, take the wheel :) I told her the ambition of the surprise, discussed the budget, and sent over a Dropbox link.

And wow, did she nail it! I had only a handful of changes here and there, to highlight our favorite moments and spend a little extra for some full page spreads. In what felt like no time at all, the book was perfect. All that was left to do was surprise him... I laid the book out in the cute crafty tote that Karen added. He opened it, read the quirky dedication page, and laughed through tears as he flipped through the gorgeous book.

I am one of those people who loves to take photos and then never does anything with them.  My husband and I took two fabulous trips and needless to say, four years later, still no album or photo book.  It's the one issue that came between my husband and me-he would constantly hound me - "are you ever going to do anything with the pictures from Alaska? or Yellowstone?"  I truly wanted to do something with them, it was just too overwhelming for me.  I had thousands of pictures from each trip and it was too hard for me to decide which were worthy of putting in an album or book.   

I finally accepted the fact that I was never going to get it together myself and hired Karen.  It was the best decision I ever made.  She weeded through over 5,000 photos, chose those that she thought would be good, and designed and edited two absolutely gorgeous 100+ page photo books -- books that are so beautiful that I cried when I saw them. 

Karen is a pleasure to work with-we'd go back and forth with drafts, sometimes multiple drafts in the same day and she was always willing to make an edit, adjust a layout or search for a picture I thought I remembered taking.    

Karen worked on these books for two months- it took that long mostly due to my issues getting her the photos, my ability to find time to review her drafts and my pickiness.  Karen never had a problem with any of that and she was always willing to make a change or offer a suggestion.  It's been a few weeks since we finished and I miss working with her and talking to her.  So much so that I'm trying to think of what other books I need so I can work with Karen again.  

If you are anything like me and feel the overwhelm of a project like this or have been putting it off, do yourself a favor and hire Karen.  You won't regret it, and you'll finally be able to cross that photobook off your to do list.

When I decided to make a photobook on outdoor dining in NYC during the pandemic, friends told me that photo book websites could help me create the book myself.  I consulted these sites but quickly realized that they were more complicated than I had imagined.  No matter how easy the sites made it seem, they frustrated me, and I soon realized that I couldn’t produce the book alone.  I needed help, professional help and so returned to the Web in search of a layout designer.   Fortunately, I found Karen’s website, impressive in its elegance, clarity, and testimonials.  She agreed to work with me and thus began a collaboration which created a photo book with which I am absolutely thrilled.  Her artistic eye, judicious advice, infinite patience, and enthusiasm for the project were the hallmarks of her service.  From the moment she gave me the first draft (which included a cover photo so stunning that it remained the cover of the last draft), I knew that I had struck photobook gold.
